Langlois
Crémant de Loire Brut Reserve NV
Loire Valley, France
Langlois owns and manages 175 acres of the best AOC vineyards in the Loire Valley. For their Crémants they have an intensely terroir-focused approach of drawing the best characteristics from 6 distinct vineyard areas and soil types in order to create complex and refined wines.
Grapes are hand harvested in small bins and pressed gently. Only the ‘first press juice’ is used (the ‘cuvée’). Each parcel and each variety is vinified separately. Aging lasts at least 36 months (versus 12 months required by the appellation) (18 months for the rosé). Reserve wines are incorporated in the final blend which is an extremely rare practice in the world of crémant.
Vineyard
In Saumur, the House carefully tends to its 153 acres. To complement its work on its Crémants Bruts, Langlois purchases neither must nor clear wine, only grapes. An exception in the Loire Valley, this ensures high-quality blends. 77 acres have already been converted to Organic Agriculture (in conversion since 2022 for the other remaining acres. Finally, Langlois dedicates the same energy into supporting its partner winegrowers through their conversion.
Winemaking
Separation of Cuvées and Tailles with independent vinification on a tailor made basis for the 2 terroirs mostly chalky. Blend of the 2 grapes (Cabernet Franc as a majority with 78 %, 12% Pinot Noir) before starting bottling for the second fermentation in the bottle. This second fermentation takes place in our natural tuffeau cellars troglodytes. Aging of a minimum of 18 months.

Reviews
Wine Enthusiast - October 9, 2024 "This fresh, bright crémant is a great value for the price point. Golden apple, bosc pear and dried white-flower blossom open on the nose and carry into a persistent finish. Lemon citrus breaststrokes across the palate and rides a wave of orchard fruit completing with a long finish."

Grapes are hand harvested at perfect maturity to explore the full complexity of the Chenin’s aromas while keeping its freshness. Langlois' requirements are beyond the appellation : Light pressing in pneumatic presses, aged for a minimum of five years on the lees, compared with 12 months for typical Crémant (and 15 months for Champagne).
