Primitivo 2020

Primitivo di Manduria

Download

This 100% Primitivo is rich and forward, with notes of baking spice, licorice, blackberry and black cherry fruit, as well as hints of chocolate. Despite the boldness of the flavors, the wine retains bright acidity and restrained alcohol levels, keeping it fresh throughout.

Vineyard

The vines are planted using the Guyot training system, with a plant density of 5.500 vines/ha. The vineyards are designed so as to fit perfectly into their surroundings: the vines are supported by wooden stakes at the head of each row, and by galvanized iron posts along their length. An irrigation system exists, but it is only used in periods of extreme drought. The soil in this area is limestone-based: it is very fertile and permeable, as well as being cool and a reddish ocher in color due to its iron content.

Winemaking

In the vineyard, premium fruit is obtained as a result of strict clonal selection, modern vine training systems, and severe pruning. Once in the cellar, the wine underwent 12 days of fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by 10 months aging in oak casks.

Tasting Note

A deep ruby red in color, it offers fascinating complexity on the nose: from floral scents of violets to rich fruity ones of black and sour cherries and strawberries, along with underlying balsamic notes, licorice and aromatic herbs. On the palate it is broad, full-bodied and fruity, and wins you over with its polished tannins and vibrant finish, sustained by an attractive fresh vein of acidity.

Food Pairing

Ideal with grilled meats, roast lamb, mature cheeses and tasty soups containing pulses and spices.
