E. Guigal Makes Big Acquisitions in Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Wine Spectator reports that the esteemed Northern Rhône producer, the Guigal family, has acquired the Domaine Les Clefs d’Or in Châteauneuf-du-Pâpe. No stranger to the southern Rhône, Phillipe Guigal started working in the appellation in 2017 after his decade-long search for a prime Châteauneuf estate lead him to the monumental purchase of the 134 acre Chateau de Nalys.

Phillipe Guigal was deliberately looking for land in the La Crau lieu-dit as he, “believes the area produces fresher, more vibrant wines, even as the climate grows warmer.” The 47 acres in La Crau, next to some plots of Nalys and near Clos des Papes, includes a plot of old Grenache vines believed to have been planted in 1896.
